French Casino and Card Room Gaming

There are multiple government agencies that regulate the components of casino gaming. The Ministry of Interior regulates casinos along with the Sous-Direction des Courses et Jeux, a department within the Ministry of Interior, which handles applications for licenses and publishes financial data. Casinos are taxed on a sliding scale based on their revenue, from 10% all the way to 80%.

Slot machine revenues in France have grown considerably since slots were first allowed in 1984. Today, over 90% of the total gaming revenue in French casinos can be attributed to slot machines. Slot machines have a statutory theoretical payout of at least 85%.

In June 2007, Texas Hold’Em was approved for French gambling facilities. In July 2007, casinos that wanted to offer the game had to follow a set procedure and be approved by the Home Secretary.
